NEXT GENERAL MEETING September 8th ...Monday at 7PMThe Next Newsletter will be coming out the end of August but there is a lot for you to be doing during the summer months!! Please read and make notes of the busy fall schedule and what you need to get ready for. September 25 th thru 28th .........COCHISE COUNTY FAIR DEMONSTRATIONS: This year we are hoping to get volunteers to demonstrate during the fair hours. Taking shifts of 2 or 4 hours each will make the task easy and fun. You will receive a pass to get into the fair and after your demo, you can enjoy the fair activities. What a good deal!! Sign up during our Sept. meeting or e-mail Joan at jsruane@yahoo.com. ENTRIES: There is no entry fee to enter pieces into the Cochise County Fair. This year the catalog will be on line and as soon as it comes out, we will send you the link. For those who do not have a computer, there will be a list and entry forms available to see in the Fiber Studio. Lets make this year an out standing showing from our Bisbee Guild. Knitting, weaving, felting and spinning!! Jill Holbrook has agreed to come down to judge the spinning entries and a weaver from Tucson will judge the weaving. Let’s make sure they have a lot to judge. The Cochise County Fair is offering a service that we all should consider. They will take our entries on Sunday the 28 th and see to it they get to the STATE FAIR and return them in November. Entries for the State Fair are $1.00 each but no charge for delivery. We will have more about this at our September Guild Meeting, Sept. 8 th. We have tags and entry forms ready for you and spinners have a special information tag that you need to fill out and put on all of your skeins of yarn. It is suggested that you bring your entries to the Sept. meeting and let the fair committee help you tag them correctly. If you have questions call Holly at 432-8053 or Joan at 642-3603. A FIRST CLASS FASHION SHOW is coming to Bisbee this Fall Maralyce Ferree of Pan Terra Gallery, National Bank and the Bisbee Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a “fancy” fashion show during Super Bowl weekend, part of a “Bisbee get-away for women”. Details are being worked out but the Bisbee Fiber Arts Guild has been invited to show in this fashion show. I am sure it will be juried, as only quality pieces will be presented. Then after the fashion show, the pieces will be for sale at the show and in the local galleries on Sunday. OCTOBER FIBER ARTS FESTIVAL..... 16 TH ANNUAL OCTOBER 11th The guild board is putting together several exciting workshops for that weekend. One is with Jill Holbrook teaching Color Spinning for Weaving and Knitting and the other workshop hopefully will be with the Zapotec weaver, Alex Martinez, from Oaxaca. Details will be published on our web site as soon as dates, times and costs are determined. Sorry for the delay but until we get Alex’s schedule we can not set dates & time. 2009…REP WEAVE WORKSHOP by Joanne Tallarovic, author of “rep weave and beyond” Coming Feb. 6-7-8, 2009 Joanne is a nationally known instructor and has been teaching across the country for many years. Her workshops usually cost well over $200 but with the help of the Bisbee Foundation Grant, we can offer this workshop for $175, $140. for BFAG/BCYmembers. Maxium12 students. Call Elizabeth Fabry at 432-0320for more information. The old Cranbrook has been worked on so it has a nice shed now. It has a heavy natural white cotton warp on it. The new Cranbrook has a white wool warp on and is great to do wool rugs. The Leclec has a colorful warp just crying for someone to come weave on it!!
WONDERFUL NATURAL DYE WORKSHOP . Kathy Dalrymple give us a great dye workshop. Ten people enjoyed dyeing!!! We were amazed at the colors we got from alfalfa hay and the oranges from cottonwood tree leaves. Thank you Kathy for a great workshop. See pictures on our web site.
SATURDAY MAY 17 TH we met at the Farmer’s Market for the morning. It was a lot of fun demonstrating spinning and weaving. Deb Moroney brought her sheep and she sheared one with scissors, as people gathered around in awe. We had some things for sale and our woodworker, Rae Temperton was there with some of her wonderful tools for sale. Andy was helping with the loom weaving and one young man named Bryce got “hooked” and he is now one of our youngest members..9 years of age weaving in the WORKSHOP COMMstudio on Monday evenings.
WORKSHOP COMMITTEE IS GETTING CLASSES READY FOR THE FALL What kind of classes are you looking for?? How about a Pine Needle Basket class? Beginning Spinning? What kind of weaving classes do we need? Please send any suggestions to Andy at andread765@gmail.com If you would like to teach a class, send her your proposal before July 12 th. GUILD MEMBERS: if you can house instructors or out of town workshop participants, please call or e-mail Andy so she can put you on the “housing list”. This would be very helpful.. Thank you. CENTER FOR LIFELONG LEARNING.. This is affiliated with Cochise College. They offer classes in everything from Computers to learning Spanish. They have an Art and Hobbies section and Joan will be teaching two short classes. July 24 th..WEAVING DELIGHT a basic weaving class to show students what is involved in weaving. 9am-noon July 31 st. INKLE WEAVING..learning how to make belts and straps on an inkle loom. Great for teachers and students ..9am to noon.
